Located in the very heart of East China, Hefei has got fairly convenient
transport system--a cobweb of air, railway and road transport facilities
link the city with most other important destinations.
Airport
You can access the provincial capital daily from most of the major
cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Xiamen
and Qingdao. In addition, you may opt to fly from Hefei to the Yellow
Mountain. The Luogang Airport is located about 10km south of the city
proper. CAAC buses (RMB5) take passengers to the CAAC office on Huizhou
lu shortly after a plane arrives. Leaving Hefei for the airport, you
may go to the CAAC office (daily 8am-10pm; Tel: 0551-2886626) to book
the ticket. China Eastern Airlines office (Tel: 0551-2822537) at 246
Jinzhai lu can also arrange transportation.
Railway
station
A more affordable and popular option is visiting or leaving the city
by train, especially from cities in nearby provinces, such as Shanghai,
Chengdu, Zhenzhou, Nanchang as well as destinations within Anhui, including
Bengbu, Fuyang, Anqing and Wuhu. With the completion of the Nanjing-Xi'an
Railway Line in the foreseeable future, Hefei will play an even more
important role in railway transport, linking east and west China. The
newly constructed railway station, lying 3km northeast of the center
at the northeastern end of Shengli lu, is arguably one of the most modern
in east China. Arriving by train, you may take bus No.119 into town.
Although you can book tickets outside of the station, it is possible
that you will not be able to get what you want. If you do have trouble,
try the advance booking office at the intersection of Changjiang lu
and Jinzhai lu, especially for sleeper tickets. CITS (Zhongguo guoji
luxing she, Tel: 0551-2821418), at 8 Meishan lu, also provides similar
services.
Bus
station
As the capital city, Hefei is the center of provincial road transport.
State-level Expressway No.312 (Shanghai to Xinjiang) and No.206 (Yantai
to Shantou) meet at Hefei. And, with the recent completion of expressways
between Hefei and Nanjing, Hefei and Wuhu, Hefei and Tongling as well
as Hefei and Anqing, road transport between Hefei and other major and
minor cities in the Yangtze River Delta has greatly improved. Especially
noteworthy is the fact that it takes no more than two hours to get to
Nanjing (RMB60) and five & a half hours to reach Shanghai (RMB130)
by expressway. The Hefei long-distance bus station is located at the
intersection of Shengli lu and Mingguang lu, not far from the railway
station.
city
transport
There are over 80 bus routes in the city, carrying locals and travelers
to virtually every corner of town. The most frequently used buses are
bus No.1 and No.10. The former goes from the railway station to the
city center while the latter from the railway station to the hotel area.
There are also hundreds of taxis in the city, and fares to most areas
should not exceed RMB30.
