As one of the earliest sea ports opened to the world, Quanzhou played an important role in introducing western style food into China. Quanzhou food is most noted for its wide range of "Dim sum", which are not too oily or spicy. Some of the palatable dishes won the titles as "the Chinese Most Famous Snacks", such as Green Bean Cake (Ludou bing), Sticky Rice (Nuomi), Rice Glue Ball (Yuanxiao), Radish Cake (Luobo gao) and Peanut Soap (Huasheng tang).
Many restaurants can be found on East Street (Dong jie), West Street (Xi jie) and the Zhongshan lu.

Quanzhou boasts a diverse and distinctive traditional culture including the renowned Southern Music, puppet theatres and Quanzhou martial arts. As it is the original hometown of many Taiwanese you will find both places share a lot of traditions: the Gaojia Opera and the Liyuan Opera, for example, are also popular in Quanzhou.Modern recreation facilities in Quanzhou include: a golf course, a miniature world park, a yacht club and lido.
