Zhaoqing, anciently called Duanzhou, was renamed since the autography "Zhaoqing Prefecture" Was bestowed by Huizong emperor in the first year of Chonghe, North Song dynasty (A.C.1118), with the meaning of the beginning of auspiciousness and happiness.
　　Located in the center of Guangdong Province, Zhaoqing governs four counties, two cities and two districts. With a population of 3,800,000 people, it occupies 15,000km2. There is over 90km from its east to Guangzhou City, and 140 sea miles to Hong Kong. It is the political, economical and cultural center in the middle and lower reaches of Xijiang River. It enjoys a mild subtropical monsoon climate (average 21℃ annually)and abundant rainfall. Zhaoqing is a famous place from ancient time. Since Duanzhou was established in Sui Dynasty, it had been the important political and military area during that time. Baozheng, an outstanding rectitude official in North Song Dynasty, had managed this district for 3 years. With 2200 years' history, Zhaoqing has a lot of natural and cultural landscapes and showplaces, among which Star-lake Scenery Spot is the most famous one and is made up of two spots: Seven-star Stone Hills and Dinghu Mountain.
