Xi'an is a store house of anicent Chinese culture and calligraphy! There are more than 300 steles dating from the Han, Wei, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties collected in the Forest of Steles in Xi'an. Books of rubbings from some of the most famous Chinese calligraphers can be purchased there. As an international and modern tourist city, Xi'an boasts a good selection of bars, restaurants and other entertainment facilities. The city's large student population ensure that the night life here is more exciting than in many other Chinese cities. This city is a big hit with backpackers too, who add to the increasingly westernized atmosphere about the place at night. A good place to start the evening is in either Dad's Home Cooking or Mum's Home Cooking on Fenghe Lu. There are always lots of people hanging about in here and the food and beer is cheap. Ask in here about the latest hot spots in the city. The area around Dong Da Jie is also lively in the evenings. A couple of places worth checking out are Bar One Plus One and the House Disco. If you are still looking for more action you could also try the Fashion Bar on the same road. This place is actually pretty funky and the drinks here are good. For those after something a little more upmarket, there are some nice hotel bars here. The top hotels in Xi'an cater well to foreign tourists and their drinking and eating habits! Try the bar in the Hyatt Regency Hotel or the pleasant cafe in the Bell Tower Hotel.
